श्रीभगवानुवाच
मया प्रसन्नेन तवार्जुनेदंरूपं परं दर्शितमात्मयोगात् ।
तेजोमयं विश्वमनन्तमाद्यंयन्मे त्वदन्येन न दृष्टपूर्वम् ॥
न वेदयज्ञाध्ययनैर्न दानैर्न च क्रियाभिर्न तपोभिरुग्रैः।
एवं रूपः शक्य अहं नृलोके द्रष्टुं त्वदन्येन कुरुप्रवीर ॥
Transliteration
śrī bhagavān uvāca
mayā prasannena tavārjunedaṃ rūpaṃ paraṃ darśitam ātma yogāt |
tejomayaṃ viśvam anantam ādyaṃ yan me tvad anyena na dṛṣṭa-pūrvam || 47 ||
na veda yajñādhyayanair na dānair na ca kriyābhir-na tapobhir-ugraiḥ |
evaṃ rūpaḥ śakya ahaṃ nṛloke draṣṭuṃ tvadanyena kuru-pravīra || 48 ||
Translation
By My grace, O Arjuna, this Supreme Manifestation, luminous, cosmic, infinite, primal,which has never seen before by anyone but you, has been revealed to you through My divine potency.
Neither through the study of the Vedas, nor by sacrifices, nor by recital of the Scriptures, nor by charity, nor by rituals, nor by strict austerities can I be realised in a manifestation like this in this mortal world by any one else but you, O Arjuna!
Purport
In the above two Shlokas, Bhagvan Shri Krishna revealed one of the biggest secrets of Sanatan Dharma and one of the most important things to be known by devotees.
Bhagvan Shri Krishna revealed, His true form cannot be seen by anybody else than His(Shri Krishna’s) true devotees. Nobody can see Shri Krishna merely by attaining knowledge, performing Tapasya and attaining yogic powers, or performing austerities and penance. Yes those who attain knowledge, perfection in yoga and austerities attain their highest abode, they attain their respective Moksha, but they can’t see the true form of Shri Krishna. This special grace of Shri Krishna to reveal himself in the form desired by the devotee is available only and only to his devotees. This fact has been declared at other places in Shrimad Bhagvad Gita.
भक्त्या मामभिजानाति यावान्यश्चास्मि तत्त्वतः।
One can understand what and who I am only by devotion.

Further Bhagvan Shri Krsihna also described, this Universal form of his which He displayed to Arjuna was never displayed earlier. By being pleased by the devotion of Aruna, Bhagvan Shri Krishna agreed to display is true form. And to do that Bhagvan Shri Krishna has to adjust his potency to make his form revealed.
