Chapter 12 : Bhakti Yoga, The yoga of devotion

Ch 12 : Sh 13-14

अद्वेष्टा सर्वभूतानां मैत्रः कारुणः एव च ।
निर्ममो निरहङ्कारः समदुःखसुखः क्षमी ॥13॥
संतुष्टः सततं योगी यतात्मा दृढ़निश्चयः।
मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्यो मद्भक्तः स मे प्रियः॥14॥

Transliteration

adveṣṭā sarva bhūtānāṃ maitraḥ karuṇa eva ca |
nir-mamo nir-ahaṅkāraḥ sama duḥkha sukha kṣamī || 13 ||
santuṣṭaḥ satataṃ yogī yatātmā dṛḍha-niścayaḥ |
mayyarpita mano buddhiḥ yo mad-bhaktaḥ sa me priyaḥ || 14 ||

Translation

One who has no animosity with for any being, who is a friend of everyone, who is compassionate to all., is free from attachment, and egoism, and maintain equanimity of mind in joy and sorrow, forgiving, ever satisfied, united with yoga, have a strong determination in God and have consecrated his mind and intellect to me. Such a devotee of mine is very dear to me.


Purport

Now from these verses onwards till the end of the chapter, Bhagvan Shri Krishna listed all those people who are very dear to Shri Krishna. The list of people goes like this:
The one
1. Who is a friend to everyone
2. Who is compassionate to all
3. Who is free from worldly attachment
4. Who is free from ego
5. Who maintains equanimity of mind in sorry and joy
6. Who is forgiving
7. Who is satisfied in what he gets through his hard work and not greedy
8. Who is united with yoga that means he who is spiritual
9. Who wish to devote to Shri Krishna

To note except one all other characteristics of the human being listed above are related with a righteous person who is working towards his own and welfare of the entire humanity. This is to note that the path to God goes through the act of righteousness. Under no circumstances a man surpassing the path of righteousness can reach to God.
All the righteous characteristics of humans listed above make the person happy and peaceful and benefiting entire humanity.
