Chapter 2 : Sankhya Yoga - The realm of truth

Ch 02 : Sh 46

यावानर्थ उदपाने सर्वतः सम्प्लुतोदके ।
तावान्सर्वेषु वेदेषु ब्राह्मणस्य विजानतः ॥

Transliteration

tavan sarvesu vedesu brahmanasya vijanatah

Translation

All purposes that are served by the small pond can at once be served by the great reservoirs of water. Similarly, all the purposes of the Vedas can be served to one who knows the purpose behind them.

Purport

This is yet another shloka describing the relative purpose of Vedas. Bhagvan Shri Krishna here again clarified that Vedas are the tool to achieve the supreme and not the goal in itself. Once a human is able to achieve state where is no longer bounded with this material world and unifies his soul with Supreme, he may no longer need Vedas. Given example Bhagvan explains, as large reservoir of water automatically serves all the purpose solved by small reservoir of water, similar the purppsoe of Vedas is automatically solved for one who is situated in Supreme Bramhan(Bhagvan Sri Krishna).
