Transliteration
śrī bhagavān uvāca
saṃnyāsaḥ karma yogaśca niḥśreyasakarāv-ubhau |
tayos-tu karma saṃnyāsāt karma-yogo viśiṣyate || 2 ||
Translation
The Blessed Lord said: Renunciation of actions and Karma Yoga, both lead to the highest beatitude. But, of these two, Karma Yoga is superior to the renunciation of actions.
Purport
In earlier Shloka Arjuna has asked Bhagvan Shri Krishna to clarify his confusion about Sanyas and karma yoga. Arjuna also requested to guide which among the two is better.
Bhagvan Shri Krishna in this Shloka gives a very direct answer. The very first thing Bhagvan told that the Sanyas and Karma Yoga are two different paths leading to the same destination, that is that the liberation. Bhagvan Shri Krishna further made is very clear that the path of Karma Yoga is superior to Sanyas.
In next Shlokas Bhagvan Shri Krishna has given the definition of Sanyas. The same subject of sanyas is again described in Ch18 when Bhagvan Krishna describes Tyaga(the renunciation). This is
