Purport

Worship is one of the most important processes for religious practices. As there are different ways to worship and so are different reasons to worship. The above Shloka classifies the kinds of devotees worshipping God. They are as follows:

1. Distressed:
This is one of the two most common type of people worshipping God. In the state of troubles, failure, bad health, insecurity, etc many people take refuge in God. They come under this category.

2. Inquisitive about Knowledge:
This category defines people who are "Curious or inquiring" and want to know God. Such people acquire knowledge of scripture, indulge in methods of yoga, Tapasya, etc to know the real nature of God. Some others use rigorous logic, reasoning, etc to reach the truth about God. Saints, Philosophers, Yogis, etc come under this category. Devotees of this kind use the path of Jnana Yoga.

3. Ambitious or one who wants to accomplish his motives:
This is the second most common type of people worshipping God. Those people who worship God to accomplish success, prosperity, good health, peace, security or other motives in life, come under this category.

4. Wise render devotional service:
This is the kind of people who worship God only for devotion, nothing else. God is the real goal for them and they are the bhakta(devotee) of God.

In later Shlokas, Bhagvan Shri Krishna has described, such people the best among all worshipping Shri Krishna the supreme.
